Best Books - September 2020
Updated: Nov 1, 2020
September was a quiet month for me - I read half as many books as I usually do. Only one of them was a five-star read for me, and that was Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo, the third book in the Shadow and Bone trilogy.
This series has been on my TBR for about five years, and it's taken me a really long time to get around to it. As a result, I was expecting it to feel like a dated court fantasy, but there was more than enough novelty to keep me interested. It helps that the voice is utterly and immediately gripping. Bardugo writes in such an easy-to-read style that I found it impossible not to be swept up in the story. I really loved the darker elements too - a weird, definitely-not-romance between her and the baddy that was utterly horrifying but also made irresistible reading.
I've also read the Six of Crows duology (set in the same world) this month, and I enjoyed it, but the Shadow and Bone series is definitely my favourite.
What are the best books you read last month? I'd love to hear your recommendations.
