Writing Vlog #1: Hello, World
Updated: Jan 5, 2020
Hello! This is my first ever writing vlog, so I just want to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about my YouTube channel. From now on, I'll be posting these vlogs weekly on Sundays.
About Me
I've been self-publishing since 2015, and now have six self-published novels and one short story out in the world (for a list, check out Books). Over the past four years, I've learnt an awful lot and have made more mistakes than I can count. I'd like to share some of my writing experiences with you through this vlog, as they happen.
BUT this is not a practical how-to blog. If you're looking for practical advice on how to self-publish, then you want David Gaughran's blog.
I'll also be sharing information about my latest books, answering questions about my writing, and generally talking about all things related to my stories and what I do on the day-to-day to write, publish and market them.
My ultimate aim is to become a hybrid author: publishing some works via traditional publishers and some through self-publishing. That means I need an "AGENT". I do not have an "AGENT", but from what I can gather they are elusive creatures who enjoy tea and biscuits, and can often be found haunting the seedier corners of Twitter where cat pictures and MSWLs proliferate. I hope one day to catch sight of, and perhaps even snare, one of these majestic wonders of bookishness, but until then I might have better luck hunting the unicorn of self-publishing success. So, while I shop my unpublished manuscripts around the agencies, I'll continue to self-publish my other PNR and YA manuscripts and share my trials and tribulations with you.
News
In writing news, I've just submitted The Gilded King for the Caledonia Novel Award. They'll be announcing the long-list on 30th November, so fingers crossed!
In reading news, I'm currently reading Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett. I've been under the weather this week so it's been sitting on the bedside table for days while I snooze.
In other news, I've just made sloe gin with sloes picked by my own blackthorn-scratched hands (and those of my husband and dad!). In two months' time, hopefully it should be delicious!
